Because we're all gonna die

Two weeks ago, with the support of my wife Holly, I turned down a couple of jobs in the education field in NJ to devote my life to a career of freelance writing.  I have been writing a long time, mostly poetry, or academic type essays related to schooling and of course journals, letters, email, etc: all of which have amounted to, well not much.

It's time my writing experience to amounts to something.  Back in the 1950's Jack Kerouac was asked on national television by Steve Allen why he wrote the book On The Road. He replied, "I wrote the book because we're all going to die."

So direct and so simple, and I can't think of a better reason to take this journey for my myself, my children (God help them, as they rely on this venture to eat), and my wife who said I should do it, said I can do it, and is at the other computer in my house searching jobs and places to put my writing to use. Sad but true, my family (and all of you too) is "gonna die" someday. So I am doing this because I love it, I will see my family more, and I will understand and become more of the world around me.

In these two weeks I have made some notable connections. I have four reporting assignments for thealternativepress.com coming up this Sat, Sun, and Mon. So please look for those. I am writing articles for demandstudios.com, which provides online content for sites such as livestrong.com, ehow.com, usatodayonline.com etc...I have written an article on my own examiner.com page reviewing the makeover of the local playground in my home town. And finally, last night, I went on my first reporting assignment for hopatcong.patch.com, covering the Hopatcong Borough Democratic Party meeting. That story will go online at 8pm tonight.

I am finding assignments and creating them. On this blog I will write my opinions and thoughts about politics, parenting, all things art worthy, news worthy, people, places and the writing life. See how this life for my family and I takes shape. Follow my words.
